Path In Freer Field

June 4, 2012

A community grant is to be used to construct a path through part of Freer Field in back of DR.I think the total cost was estimated to be $78,000. Boy, I hope it's a nice path. I am not begrudging of the path, but I'd like to hear more on how it will be built. Will it be concrete or asphalt? Will it be tiled for drainage? If so, where will the tile run?  I am assuming that it will be wheelchair friendly.

I spend some time in and about the field and I suggest running the path through high and low grass. There is currently a lot of high grass that's good habitat for a variety of birds. I suggest low grass in order to accommodate wild flowers.

I suppose that I shouldn't be worried too much as The Ashland County Parks District is doing a fine job. They recently added 16 acres and a cabin to their inventory. It had been the Ashland Firemen's cabin. As I understand it, volunteers will be  needed there. I would enlist, but I just injured my shoulder that is already bone on bone. It was reconstructed over 30 years ago, making replacement difficult. I was told to postpone surgery until I could no longer stand the pain. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
